Due to the heavy rain that fell in the Townsville region , an area of bush on Magnetic Island, known locally as the Pope's Land , because it was bequested to the Catholic Church , has a stream running through it , attracting a variety of birds .
Plovers in particular are now seen in the area chasing insects displaced by the blessed water. Many butterflies are also evident after the deluge and Sunbirds are darting about along with flocks of screeching Cockatoos .
In flight Plovers in the flooded Pope's Land were photographed above by Vallis , followed by a shot of two on the ground hunting insects and worms in the overflow .
