The dramatic El Holocausto tapestry- protesting against genocide and racism- based on the fresco by Mexican artist Manuel Rodrigues Lozano in Mexico City in l944 , stands out in the Dublin GPO.
It is described as an exceptional artwork that vividly captures the pain and tragedy of victims of human rights violations and war, the original mural a timeless work much like Picasso’s Guernica.
It was recently unveiled by Suzi Diamond, one of three holocaust survivors in Ireland, at a ceremony organised by Art for Human Rights in partnership with An Post and in association with Amnesty International Ireland, Holocaust Education Ireland, the Irish Network Against Racism (INAR), the Jewish Representative Council of Ireland and René Cassin.
Woven in Aubusson, France, by Ateliers Pinton in 2019, the four metre wide and three metre high tapestry was exhibited at UNESCO in Paris in 2020 and in Mexico City earlier this year, to be shown elsewhere during the year .
