A CRICKET MAD NATION

While cleaning out some forgotten files containing old mounted studio photographs ,  the  current  match between Australia and Pakistan  receiving so much media attention, out  popped  the  circa 1918  above  group in  which  the  youngster  is  holding  a mini cricket bat. It was taken at the Kadina, South Australia, studios of  H.W.Pell .

Situated 148 kms from Adelaide ,on the Yorke Peninsula,  Kadina , like Moonta and  Wallaroo, was deeply impacted  by early copper mining , many  Cornish miners taking  part , also  influencing the  architecture of  the  towns . Kadina  is  one of three centres for the  Kernewek Lowender Cornish  Festival, the largest in the world ,  held  every  two  years  since  1973.
