After taking a tourist photo of a diver in Broome, wandering Darwin agronomist Robert Wesley-Smith headed out of town early, went for a quick look for a certain wreck in the mangroves , without success, and put the foot down , heading south for Port Hedland .
While rapidly eating up the kilometres in his Honda Jazz in the rugged outback of Western Australia,he took several shots of the terrain including large Kimberley termite mounds in which he said bodies used to be buried. Inserted from the top , a body was soon covered over by termites. Inquisitive grey nomads driving out west should therefore not go digging about the mounds.
Feeling peckish, he took his foot off the accelerator and rolled into a pleasant looking roadside stop.
There were strolling peacocks, nice staff ,so he ordered a steak and onion sandwich . Over the years Wes has fanged innumerable steak sandwiches , very popular in the Northern Territory , especially sarteed ones .
However, the one served up was tough , and he asked the establishment why . He was told it was local beef ... not a good advertisement for WA beef. Attention Twiggy Forrest and Gina Rinehart .
On the road again , he drove through Port Hedland , took more snaps of the countryside; we insert one at random .
What next ? More dust, more photos , maybe another difficult car washing machine .
