The five Australian journalist employed by Channel 7 and 9 who were massacred at Balibo , East Timor , during the Indonesian invasion ,were Greg Shackleton, 29, Tony Stewart, 21, Gary Cunningham, 27, Brian Peters, 24, and Malcolm Rennie, 29. The tragedy was marked by the Free West Papua Movement, which said the families of the victims had never been given justice . Another journalist , Roger East , who spent time in Darwin before he went to Timor to help the freedom movement, was shot and thrown into the sea off Dili. East's murder was reenacted by Darwin activist Robert Wesley-Smith , a longtime supporter of East Timor, who was bound , thrown into the sea.
