Described by Sir David Attenborough as the world's greatest living wildlife illustrator , William Cooper AO (1934-2015), began as a landscape and seascape artist , turned to birds . The exhibition is in partnership with the State Library of NSW and the National Library of Australia . Consisting of more than 100 of his works, it coincides with the launch of a book about his art by his wife, Wendy Cooper, published by the National Library .
In 1992 the Academy of Natural Sciences Philadelphia presented Cooper with their gold medal for distinction in natural history. In 1987 the Coopers moved to Topaz, on the Atherton Tablelands, North Queensland .
