SAD BLACK MASS ON ISLAND

As black as the proverbial   Blackhole  of  Calcutta , aptly named  pooch ,  Sooty, of  uncertain pedigree, would  like  to romp    about  the  street  , say hello to other   dogs , but  frequently  gets  picked  on - by Curlews . They go into  a hissing attack  mode, wings outstretched , whenever  he  comes  near . He twigged that  at a certain time each day a woman makes  a  clucking   sound   like a Mother Hen  and  calls Curlews to  be  fed. So he  attempts to whip  in  for  a share  of  the  tucker , which  is  diced up  dogfood  anyway .   This causes all  Curlews in the area to gang up on Sooty  and send him packing back home with his  squeaky  guinea  pig  pals .
The top photograph  shows  Sooty  , frustrated , flopped down on the  roadway  after  two  Curlews  came  at  him . At times he has been  confronted  by four of the birds  , resulting in  him   beating  a hasty retreat . ABOVE :  Trespassing into  blogger  territory , a  watchful  Curlew  about to  move  him  along .
From a safe distance, watching  Curlews  being  fed by  clucky lady .
