Thankfully no longer looking like a gory crime scene, above, from a Down Under version of The Murders in The Rue Morgue ,Townsville's mistreated Victory in the Pacific fountain is now working again , in subdued fashion .
However , our drifting about Shipping Reporter discovered part of a tree floating in the top chamber and the possible droppings of a murderous Urangutan nearby . This on part of Townsville's Heritage Trail , which you would think is well looked after.
A short distance away, in the historic railway station building , the ornate old ticket office , with its large war roll of honour , is being used to store pedestrian traffic bollards , the fancy floor is showing signs of muddy trolley tracks , dry leaves have been blown in .
