An extraordinary 24-year campaign for independence followed, inspired and led by Timor-Leste’s best and brightest, with over one hundred thousand Timorese paying with their lives.
The Australia-East Timor Association was one of a number of hubs around the world, advocating, organizing and disseminating information to keep the story of the struggle alive when the world had largely forgotten the brutal occupation. Evidence of the Australian government's disgraceful role in this catastrophe is still emerging.
Over the years AETA accumulated a unique collection of copies of over 100 posters, banners and placards used at various times in the campaign in Melbourne. Copies have been added to the Victoria University AETA archive
A selection of these , some rare , will be on display for one day only and for sale . There will be speeches by people involved in the campaign over the years .
