Helmeted Friarbirds , whose monotonous call note resembles "Poor devil, poor devil ", are justified in making this cry as they are experiencing dangerous, windy conditions . Their nests are being blown down with parts of palm trees in which they are built , eggs and chicks falling to the ground .
An abandoned , cup-shaped , tilted nest was photographed high up a palm tree .Other nests have been found on the ground in several locations . The Queen of the Jungle was presented with two Friarbirds which had fallen out of a nest . One died soon after , the squawking survivor ,below, being fed hourly.
