Without warning, Illawarra Flame Trees are again bombarding the surrounding countryside , causing locals to take shelter . The spectacular native Australian trees are in the process of shedding all their foliage to make way for distinctive crimson flowers which give them their name .
It is a situation similar to the recent Armageddon event down the road where many fronds and old bunches of nuts from a palm tree , along with resident Possums , buried a garden .
Caught in the latest bombardment are Curlews - like the mother shown here , two chicks sheltering under her wings from the missiles .
In  another location , below ,the  same  birds   spread out near a   pile  of   leaves  blown  about  by  wind .
Flowers  emerging almost as  quickly  as  leaves  cascade  from   branches .
