Dear friends of Timor Leste
It has been over a year since Dr Dan Murphy tragically passed away and yet even without his service the Bairo Pite Clinica Lanud (BPCL) limps along with progress, albeit slow, being made. East Timorese doctors are taking the reins and longtime clinic staff are trying to keep the clinic open and comply with rules of transparency that the government needs to fulfill financial commitments it made with the clinic. At least from a distance things still seem to be moving forward. Last month, Medical Aid East Timor, for its part, sent $5000 to the clinic to take care of the doctors and accounting/audit details.
I am writing to you as people I have identified, perhaps erroneously, as Australian based or with connections to Down Under. In short, Medical Aid East Timor would like to see a MAET chapter in Australia, as we desperately need to reestablish contacts with Australia for the BPCL. If you have any thoughts or would like to discuss thoughts ,concerns or ideas please let me know. BPCL could benefit from a link with 4th year medical students and/or doctors with experience in issues relevant to Timor Leste and the clinic.
If this e-mail was the beginning of a discussion about the clinic then i would see it as progress. I have contacted others as well, but hope you can think about this as the COVID crisis moves in the past, hopefully and the new year arrives.
Please follow our social media feed, a new feature for us and we would be more than willing to look at and use photos, stories and the like from you folks.
Yours sincerely, Elliot Isaac Stokes. Medical Aid East Timor board member, co-founder and director.

MAET is a USA based organization, in existence for about 25 years. We are an Internal Revenue Service recognized 501c3 non profit. MAET does not raise money for itself, only for the BPCL and its closely connected projects. 100% of all money raised goes to the BPCL minus bank transfer fees.
