Election corflutes for various parties on Magnetic Island are being attacked . Under the cover of darkness , it seems yankers , repeat yankers, emerge and pull out , rip off and damage posters. At one location all three corflutes on display were pulled out , one thrown into a tree .
In the above photograph a Conservative Senate corflute is levitating . On the horizontal underneath is Cathy O'Toole (ALP), incumbent MHR for Herbert , the other flattened one is for the Greens . This action took place near a backpackers resort -demonstrating to people from OS what lotus eaters we are in this wide brown Lucky Country , girt by rednecks .
At another site, a Cathy O'Toole corflute on a stake was pulled out of the ground , torn off and thrown into the grass . Nearby , the poster for LNP Herbert candidate Phillip Thompson was ripped from its position next to a real estate sale sign and thrown into a muddy pool. Another of his posters tied to a fence disappeared overnight .
At the intersection of Kelly and Sooning Streets , Nelly Bay , two corflutes- one for O'Toole , the other for Conservative- were broken . A democratic and fair minded gent , armed with a large sledgehammer , knocking in a replacement Cathy O'Toole at this spot , said he would raise the downed Conservative corflute but for the fact that the stake had been smashed. We received a report of a yokel wanting to borrow a felt pen to do some artwork on a poster .
No United Australia Party posters, banners , billboards , airships have have been spotted on and above the island , so you wonder if Clive has run out of dough. Other minor parties missing in action .
Yankers emerged again the night after the above report was posted , resulting in posters for the ALP , LNP and Greens being pulled out, placed in togetherness on the side of the road, arrangements being made by ALP to insert all three in another position ; another Thompson poster near a real estate sale sign had buckled ; two corflutes for Cathy O'Toole , one promoting education for the masses, including yankers, were pulled down and thrown over a fence .
