A surprise arrival in the Magnetic Island marina is this replica of a 15th century Portuguese Caravel , Notorious. Built by a Warrnambool ,Victoria , cabinetmaker Graeme Wylie and wife , Felicite . Construction of the vessel was inspired by the suggestion that the wreck of a Portuguese sailing ship was visible at Warrnambool up into the mid 1800s, known as the Mahogany Ship. Notorious is 21 metres long , six metres wide and 17 metres high . To make her watertight, the vessel was packed with 600 litres of pitch and oiled . When the unusual boat attended the Wooden Boats Festival in Hobart some years ago, the owner was invited to drop into Magnetic Island , North Queensland , should he ever be sailing by . It will be in port for about three days . Its arrival at Magnetic Island has raised speculation that it could be used in the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie to be shot in Queensland .
