Sunbird seeks refuge, rain orchids flower
With a heatwave moving across North Queensland towards the coast , temperatures predicted to be up to five degrees higher , and concern about another coral bleaching event , this blog's resident Sunbird has abandoned its hot new nest built under the back veranda .
The bird had been noticed gasping for air as the temperature rose, and then it flew away, has not been seen since.
In another odd event , rain orchids have burst into flower in several places on Magnetic Island ,suggesting some relief in coming days .
There was a slight electrical storm a few nights ago which swept through parts of Townsville and Magnetic Island but it did not cool things down .
Curlew chicks have been sighted in and near water containers.
There was a cloud build up over Townsville's Anderson Botanical Gardens ,above , when this photograph was taken by Abra .
