LEAF DANCE OF DEATH

Kookaburra energetically tossing   leaves about  near a  garden hose   attracted   attention . Then  there was a  dramatic development - it   grabbed what appeared to  be a snake  and  gulped it down .  After looking about , it suddenly  flew  up inside  a mandarin  tree covered  in  netting  and   shook a    bundle of  dry  leaves which   had  accumulated  over  weeks  in  a   fold, as if  after another snack .

Earlier  on , a   Curlew , pictured below,  after  drinking from a nearby water container,  advanced on a  large leaf  and  delivered some  hefty  pecks . The presumption was  that   it  was  getting  insects . However  it may have  been  moving  the  snake  away  from   the  water , Curlews not afraid of snakes .
