Despite the belief that the remains of the tattered Welcome to Magnetic Island wall of scrim had finally been removed , a small section remains, probably inspired by a certain famous Italian tourist attraction .
Tilted drunkenly forward on the rusting metal barricade around what is known locally as "the hole" , which floods, near the ferry terminal , is the last of the great wall of Townsville's Jewel in the Crown , weeds and an empty beercan visible , other rubbish nearby , including what appears to be car mudflaps . A glimpse of the remaining wall segment is obtained as visitors are mainly leaving the island.
