THE PROMISED LAND BECKONS

During   the  resumed , painful  task  aimed  at  sorting  and  culling   this  blog's  steamy  files  , early leaflets from tattered publications  and books with    advice  on   how  to  get  to  the wonderful  Northern Territory  and   its capital , Port   Darwin , have    been  exposed  to  sunlight , along with assorted  protesting  insects, bookworms .

The  above  illustration  depicts   the  Northern Territory of South Australia - a kind of terra nullius-  a great place for men of  energy and industry who have little  money. It is part of  the official  South  Australian  1909   guide  for  intending  settlers .

Obviously anticipating a  rush of interest  , It   said  letters of  inquiry could be sent  to  John  G. Bice , MLC, Minister Controlling the   Northern Territory,    Adelaide,  the Government  Resident , Port Darwin , or the  Agent - General , London.

Stuck  to the  cover   of  a  battered, soiled and nibbled  1909 new and revised  edition   of  Mrs  Aeneas Gunn's   Northern Territory book ,The Little Black Princess of the Never - Never , above , was  helpful  information  for those clamouring  to  get  to  Port  Darwin  via  various routes.
