No, this is not Magnetic Island's dismembered fibreglass mermaid . Our Shipping Reporter says it is the remains of an old dressmaking dummy he photographed on the Antiques Roadshow which at first glance looked like the poor mermaid-embalmed .
He provided the latest close up of the mermaid , which clearly reveals the terrible mistreatment of her body, the large plastic bottle which had been jammed into her mutilated neck area missing.

In another scoop, our waterfront roundsman says a group of island residents , absolutely appalled by the treatment of the mermaid , have " adopted " her. She has been named , Isla - island girl . An earlier photograph supplied by the Shipping Reporter , below, shows the mermaid in her prime , armed with trident with which the mainland media should be jabbed for failing to properly cover this long running , unusual story .
