More than 200 attended the protest rally at Lee Point, Darwin , at the weekend which called on Federal Minister for Environment , Tanya Plibersek ,to intervene before bulldozers start clearing an area of diverse wildllife, including Gouldian Finches and migrating overseas birds, for a large subdivision . It was pointed out that the historic area , described as Darwin's most environmentally important asset , contains a substantial birdlife population . The proposed subdivision amounted to urban sprawl which would see thousands of people flooding into the area, impacting on the wildlife and vegetation. The housing proposal, it was said, should be located near existing infrastructure ,jobs and transport that exists at places such as Berrimah and Palmerston .
