A large three-masted yacht sinks off a Queensland island and once again the Townsville media is shown it does not know how to handle such a story .
The yacht went down off Horseshoe Bay, Magnetic Island , not long after a yacht was mysterious destroyed by fire on the beach at Horseshoe Bay , polluting the foreshore, an event which failed to receive the immediate media coverage it should have received , plus the obvious follow ups.
In the case of the latest yacht , the masts still visible offshore , our Shipping Reporter , long critical of the Townville media over its paltry coverage of maritime activity and Magnetic Island , says there is an interesting story to be written about the situation by a keen cub reporter asking basic questions .
Try this for size in connection with the submerged yacht . According to hearsay info supplied to our waterfront roundsman by asking simple questions , the yacht ,owned by a woman , was heading for a place near Ingham , where it was going to become a floating restaurant . Normally , a reporter would contact the owner , chase other obvious angles , such as the salvage plan, any suggestion of Barrier Reef pollution, etc., etc .
The suggested reason why it sank would make a ripper read , according to the Shipping Reporter. Our photo by Stacey.
