There will be rallies across the nation next Monday in support of two men regarded as East Timor heroes -‘Witness K’ and lawyer Bernard Collaery-charged following the revelation that the Australian government had bugged the Cabinet office of the Timor Leste government in Dili during negotiations on the Timor Sea boundary between the two countries and oil deposits.
The Darwin demonstration will be held outside the Supreme Court at 12.10pm by the foundation member of the Northern Territory Council for Civil Liberties and longtime East Timor campaigner , agronomist Robert Wesley-Smith . He and his twin brothers have been honoured by the Timor-Leste regime for their outstanding support.
Helping prepare the Darwin rally is Dr Sister Susan Connelly , of Sydney , who has taught in Catholic and state schools, and plays an active part in the Timor Sea Justice movement .
