REPORTERS ADVISED TO LET KNICKERS HANG LOOSE

When former Northern Territory Chief Minister , Paul “Porky” Everingham , was  first elected  to  the House of  Representatives in  l984  there was media  speculation about  what this colourful  character , who  wanted  to  be Leader of  the Opposition ,  led by Andrew Peacock ,  might  contribute to deliberations. The  Melbourne Times   reported   that  Everingham  had  recently  told an  ABC “ lass” not to get  her  knickers  in  a  knot.  It  looked  forward  to  this  bloke  from Crocodile Dundee territory   telling   prominent  political reporter, Michelle Grattan, to  let her  knickers  go  loose .
