The recent
post about the
beer can boat
sailed from Darwin to Singapore
in 1977 resulted in an animated follow up conversion with a comrade , Mike Jensen, who covered the departure and
took the above
photograph. Former Brisbane Lord Mayor, Clem Jones, is shown waving his hat and Darwin identity , L. Frankenfeld , is on the right .
Danish , Mike , a gun photographer who has been to many exotic parts of the world, recently
found paradise - Norfolk Island - and raved about the place. Oh , man, he enthused over the blower , the raw beauty of Norfolk , the clean air , the history , the buildings , even the great fish and chips . He went on and on about the pine trees , the palms ? , the interesting tombstone inscriptions . If only he had known about the island 40 years ago , he may have even settled there.
This paradise , this Garden of Eden, however , had one negative - milk costs $8 a bottle . Even so , he plans to revisit Norfolk next year and we hope to extract some more photographs from him for the blog . In the past, in Darwin, this writer used to get down on his knees and go through Jensen's wastepaper basket and retrieve fabulous colour negatives he rejected from major camera assignments which promoted Australia overseas. An athletic person, Jensen has taken up the sport of Sir Francis Drake .
