SAND IN NELLY'S GROYNE

The  action packed site  on  Magnetic Island , Townsville's Jewel in the Crown , where work is going on to  install an experimental  groyne  to  try and   counter  erosion   of   sand   from  Nelly Bay  Beach .
Under the  $210,000  scheme , the  sand  filled  groyne will stretch  50metres out into the  sea . The work  includes   digging  under  the  bridge  which  leads  to what had to be officially  approved   as   an  extension of   Australia   due to the construction  of   the so called   Nelly Bay  safe  harbour  and marina , in which are  the  ferry  terminals .
As work has progressed  some residents have expressed concern about the  possibility  of  children  playing on  the  high mounds  of  sand  after hours  being swallowed   up   in  a   collapse
