The alert Queen of the Jungle drew our attention to the fact that a young eagle had been sighted frequently peering over the side of the above large nest atop a Hoop Pine, near Alma Bay , on Magnetic Island, as if about to take its first leap into space. Grabbing our camera , back from repairs in Sydney (Townsville no longer able to service cameras), went in search of the eagle. Alas , the eagle had flown . Zooming in on the nest , there was no sign of the young astronaut .
While looking about the pleasant launching pad , screeching was heard , there was a sudden flash of white - and a sulphur- crested Cockatoo flew onto the nest, looked inside . It could not have been intending to squat , take over the open eagle residence , as they normally nest in a tree hollow or cliff cavity .
Another popular eagle nesting spot on the island is atop a transmission tower, below , but there was no sign of an imminent Tesla launch to Mars and beyond , just an apparently empty nest .
