WATERFRONT ROUNDUP BY ROAMING SHIPPING REPORTER

In the dawn's early light, which sounds like the opening to the American national anthem ,  he could see a naval ship way off  Townsville , unable  to come into port . Later in the   day , it  was still there , so  he paddled out in  the office coracle  and  took a  closer  shot.
When he came ashore , our Star Spangled  waterfront scribe, the only one north of  Curl Curl ,  found the Victory in the Pacific Memorial  Fountain , a short distance from the Townsville Bulletin office ,  was again   not   working .

However, at the Anzac Memorial Park , the fountain commemorating  Queensland's  break away from  the  New  South Wales  colony  was  functioning . If  it was playing  in all  its glory , why  not the Victory in the Pacific one  in the military  garrison city ?

The  Shipping  Reporter bused out  to  the much quieter  Stockland  shopping  centre  (Myer closed, Reject Shop busy, many people in banks )  and  saw at  least  five news  stories  along  the  way , including  the  long  line  of   people  outside  Centrelink .
