Concern has been expressed about the state of the lagoon at Horseshoe Bay on Magnetic Island. Paperback trees are said to be looking sick, there have been fish kills, sedge beds and water lillies have died, the lagoon is bubbling in parts. The trouble has been attributed to salting in king tides , high temperatures, an excavated culvert diverting flow from a road .
The situation was raised at a recent meeting of the Yunbenun -Magnetic Island branch of the ALP .
