Letters have been sent out stating a large vacant block of land at Nelly Bay , Magnetic Island , known locally as "the Pope's Land ," because it once belonged to the Catholic Church , is to be turned into a conservation park by its new owners.
Sent to owners of adjoining blocks, the letters, in the name of Chris Otto and Sara Cole , say it is intended to regenerate the land and preserve the natural remnant forest in a way which will benefit the wider community.
To achieve this goal, owners of adjoining blocks are being asked to :
* No longer drive through the block for access to their gardens.
* Lock any garden gates they may have onto the block.
* If they "borrowed " land for their extended gardens, to return it to its original boundary line.
* Remove building materials, compost bins, boats and other items from the land.
It is intended to fence off the block to Compass Crescent and later place a new fence along the boundary line in order to rehabilitate the land .
There had been speculation that town houses were going to be built on the block .
