A pole , right , has suddenly appeared near the mutilated remains of the fibreglass mermaid , now sporting a plastic bottle head , which last year came ashore without notice , or any subsequent explanation by the filleted mainland media . The waterfront roundsman risked doing himself an injury when he clambered about the rocks and got the following close up of the mermaid's battered torso ,which gives the illusion she is wearing part of a cardboard or cloth bodice , the odd intruding pole looking like the tip of a nuclear submarine periscope .
