After a night of monsoonal downpour , it seems fitting to point out a strange aspect of Rain Orchids observed in recent weeks.
While checking potplants , it was discovered that the long stems of the orchids which previously displayed an array of white flowers , supposed to indicate rain in the near future , there were many banded flying insects , a close up photo above .
Intriguingly, they seemed to have attached themselves to the dried base of a flower , more than 10 on one stem. Disturbed, they flew away , came back and again took up positions on old flower sights. Must be some nectar, something tasty there ? Many of the insects were noticed back on the orchids after the rain .
