Busy shoeshine boy in action in Melbourne during  the  1930s, a large Myer's closed  sign in the background . Today lizards  are being recruited   as shoeshiners to  meet the revived,  growing  demand to  put  your  best footwear  forward . One  apprentice  lizard , below , has  been  enthusiastically  attending   shoes on  Magnetic  Island , some quite grotty .

A large  goanna on the  side of the road  to  Aurukun, on the western side of Cape York Peninsula , photographed by Abra   rejected the opportunity to  join the footwear   maintenance  trade ,  lumbered  off  into  the  bush  to  get  a  snake .
