THE MAN IN THE IRON(ED) MASK

The French  novelist  Alexandre  Dumas would have  applauded   the  enterprise  of  a  Townsville  shop  in a  major centre  which set  up  a  factory  to  cash  in  on  the demand for  face masks  at  $25  a  pop .  Two  women  sat  at  sewing  machines making  the  masks, which sold like proverbial hot cakes . In fact, there  was  a  queue  at   the  counter .

Wearing an Emile Mercier shrdlu gravy stained mask , our  creased  and  weather - worn  Shipping Reporter  , his dark glasses  fogged  up  because of the rum fumes escaping from  his  protective  covering , discovered  another  unusual  service in  the  city - a laundry   fairy .  Seems  the fairy  will  take your laundry  away and return  it  ironed.  He  is  seriously considering   sending  the  soggy, steamy contents of   his   kitbag  to  the   said  unfortunate  fairy  to  be  washed , ironed   and  starched .
