Shipping Reporter solves maritime mystery
The neglected vessel named after a former Queensland Liberal Leader and Treasurer ,Sir Thomas Hiley, which disappeared from the foreshore at Picnic Bay , Magnetic Island , has turned up high and dry (above) at nearby Cockle Bay, looking as if it had been used as a whale boat in a reshoot of Moby Dick In Cleveland Bay. There was , however, no sign of the three clucky hens that appeared with him in a Christmas card shortly before he went AWOL.
Exposed to the elements, often filling with water into which rubbish was thrown , this was the sad picture of Sir Thomas , before it vanished from Picnic Bay , where it had rested for years, without the mainland media noticing .
Now , thankfully covered over with protective plastic , Sir Thomas, off a dredge named after him , is not far from the overgrown wreck of S.S. City of Adelaide (below) which ran aground in 1916.
