LOST IN DRUGGED , PLUNDERED , FUNNY MONEY TROPICAL PARADISE WITH YET ANOTHER ODD KEYSTONE COPS REPORT

As part of  the campaign against  coronavirus , all tourist   brochures  have been removed  from the display stand in the Magnetic Island ferry terminal.  It  has to be said  that some of the  publications , next  to a sign  pointing out the location  of  a nearby  defibrillator  ,  had  been  looking  limp and sickly  for   some  months .
The stand in healthier, albeit somewhat droopy times .
In other  Magnetic Island   news  not picked up by the mainland media  there was a  drug raid on March 11  involving mainland and island police ,  oddly written up   by  the  island's community  news  newssheet, which runs an inordinate amount of  Townsville  City  Council  handouts .

Armed  with search warrants, police went through houses ,  a  number of people were charged  with a variety  of  offences , including possession , producing drugs .  A " weapon " was  mentioned  twice in  the scrambled , feeble  POLICE   REPORT   page.

Another  item of  island  interest is that   mainlanders have been  coming over  by ferry  to  Townsville's   Jewel  in the Crown -Maggie - and buying  up  toilet paper  and  hand  cleansers . This  may force islanders to  roll their  own ,wink, wink .

The  weirdest   story , however, is  hard to believe . An islander went to Harvey Norman's  store in Townsville  and handed over a  $20 note   to pay for  an item .

The apparently scared   staff  member  was  reluctant to  touch,  take the money, wanting  a  credit  card  instead.  Harvey Norman refusing to  take  legal tender !!!!    The   customer insisted , won  the  argument .
Another important  story not picked up by  mainland scribes  is the fact that the Nelly Bay Beach , oft glibly described  as one of the  island's pristine strips,  is  being  eroded  away , some tree roots  becoming exposed , revealed by these two Shipping  Reporter  photographs .
