The action of two Curlews near the driveway attracted our attention . Close together , the birds seemed to be looking at something on the ground , moved up and down with tiny steps , gradually moving sideways . The focus of their attention was the above Whip Snake , which they seemed to be directing away from their territory. It slithered off into a garden area soon after the photo was taken . A neighbour , who saw the snake , recounted a similar episode which took place some years ago . On that occasion , in a vacant block just across the road , on which there were many Curlews , about 12 of them lined up and directed a snake away from their pad .
