Rummaging about Townsville, our Shipping Reporter -the only one north of Sydney's Cafe de Wheels - was delighted to find the following 2001 reprint volume ,The Voyages to Queensland of the Lammershagen , compiled by Pennie Menderson, available through the Maryborough Heritage Institute.
Other titles in the series covered the voyages to Queensland of Tim Whiffler ,Gauntlet, Indus, Great Queensland, Star Queen, Shakespeare, Western Monarch, Humboldt, Glamorganshire and Reichstag. Built in Glasgow in 1869, the Lammershagen brought many immigrants to Australia from Germany before being wrecked in Wales in l882.
There are passenger arrival lists beginning from 1871 and much other interesting information about early settlers and illustrations in the 90 pages.
Loosely inserted was a pamphlet listing the many attractions of historic Maryborough which includes a German Immigration Festival .
