It was compiled by an avid knitter who cut many articles on the subject from a variety of publications including the Australian Home Journal, Madame Weigel's Melbourne Journal of Fashion, Woman's Budget , The Australian Woman's Mirror; loosely inserted was the 14pp Weldon's ABC of Knitting. which included instructions for jazzy knitting.
A circa 1934 cutting , above , in which someone in Townsville sought instructions on how to make a beaded mat , jumped out. Leafing through the album, an illustrated December 23 , l931 advertisement for Australia's longest running comic strip, Ginger Meggs , he more popular in his day than Bluey , was found .
Knitting , it seems, was promoted as an equal gender sport , going on the following cutting, which featured a dandy entangled in the end of a damsel's ball of wool.
