DON'T SIT UNDER THE MANDARIN TREE WITH ANYBODY ELSE BUT ME

Once more , our  resident  Curlew  couple,  pictured ,  are courting ,  seemingly over the loss of the  chick which  vanished  one  night . The pair have been keeping  close company,   cooing  to each other  , throwing bark and leaves about , the  male  brandishing  large  pieces of  bark  and   sticks . Curlews elsewhere have been matching up and  making  territorial claims , the noise at times deafening .  Scrub Turkeys  have also  appeared on the scene , quickly digging up  parts of the garden ,  hissed  at  by  our  Curlews .
In  Cairns ,  the Pelicans and Seagulls on the mudflats  have been  joined  by migrating  birds  thought  to  be  from  Russia . Abra photography .

On Magnetic Island , Larry the cussing Lorikeet , still holidaying with the Queen of the Jungle ,    has  been   naughty . Impatient , he has been whistling at the Queen when she comes  home, demanding attention  and  food .Time and time again , she has told him to wait  a minute , an  instruction  he  has  added  to  his  wide vocabulary . Larry  took  an  interest in a crocheted rug given to the Queen by a woman moving back to Canberra . With his love of  purple , he  closely  inspected  patches of  that  colour, bit  a  visitor who tried  to  examine  the  rug .
