CAIRNS TAKEOVER OF TOWNSVILLE

The botanical emblem of Cairns is the Golden Penda. But right now you could  be  forgiven  for thinking that Townsville is  Cairns  because  of   the  exploding   blossoms  in  the   city's  many  such trees, which are sending  parrots  and  butterflies  mad.

Actually, Townsville is experiencing an explosion of  blossoms  and  flowers  due to  rain  and   hot  weatther. Frangis  are   standing out in  gardens, along  streets, in parks.

An example of the  ideal  growing  conditions is  the  above  lush  view  after Cyclone Kirrily  and  follow  up  showers. .

Driving  about  Townsville  you can  still  see  signs of   tree   removals following  the   cyclone . One large  tree  seen  being cut  up  was a   Hog Plum , native  of  the  tropical  Americas.
