While south--east Queensland was being  warned about the possibility of  catastrophic  fire conditions, our Shipping Reporter , adrift  off  Magnetic Island, captured  smoke billowing from the  mainland , near  Townsville  , just before  his  camera  fell  apart , which explains why the photo  is  out  of  focus.

SINGAPORE PRISONER OF WAR SONGS

A selection of musical numbers created by Ray Tullipan and Slim De Grey in Changi , presented  by the AIF  ( Eight Division)  Concert Party .  The above album appears to have  been produced for a concert at  Narromine, NSW, attended by  thousands of  Allied prisoners of war ,  possibly l947.  It  contains  24 of  their  most popular hits and is in  the latest  list  from   Douglas  Stewart   Fine   Books,  Melbourne,  $275 ,sold quickly .

A presentation copy, the colour pictorial wrappers were  designed by ex- Changi POW, Bert Gay West  .There are musical annotations  for songs written in  Changi , with brief biographies  and  photos .  It contains a foreword by the Commander in Chief of Prisoners of War, Brigadier   Gallaghan. 

In addition, there is a history of the AIF Concert Party  in Singapore , a list of the  Malayan Concert  Party  members  and  associated  English  artists .
