MORE WILDLIFE ADVENTURES

Accompanied by  much hissing , the Curlew  eggs   next  to the driveway hatched  and   the  chicks  were  moved to  a  safer  location  by  their  parents .
First one out scruffy, still wet behind the ears .
What sounded like  cane toads  calling  during the night  resulted in  one being spotted  hopping along  the  back  verandah , disappearing into  a pile of   boxes -being used in the cull of the century - and  brickwork ,  before a shovel  could  be found . With the aid of a  powerful torch , it was  found  hiding  in narrow  space  between  the  wall  and   concrete  blocks . While trying to kill it with a spade , it  squirted me in the  face , causing a  quick retreat to the  bathroom for a hasty  wash. The  coup  de grace was delivered , skinning a  knuckle  in  the process, causing bleeding.

Other  cane toads were heard calling in the backyard ,  but  could not be  found despite a  search  with  the  torch.

The following  day ,  lizards were up early running about the back verandah . One  fancied some energetic   thong  surfing.
