SINGAPORE WAR TROVE

Number two son searches  Top End  op shops , lawn sales   and  parts of Southeast Asia   for  items  for this  blog . Over the festive season,  he went to Singapore, stumbled upon a pop up market in which the  food was good and    found   a  batch  of   interesting  American  and  German  postcards from  the  two world  wars, another a view of  the Confederate Prison 1863-1865 , Rock Island Arsenal .

It is proposed to run the postcards in a series of posts, the  first , dated  October 23 ,1943 , from G. (Gordie ) S. Strickland , at what appears to  be  the  US Navy Training Centre,  Great Lakes , sent  to his pal, Paul Sward ,1438  East Avenue , Cedar Rapids, Iowa .
From the same period is the following  postcard   addressed to  Miss Jeanette Elrea(?), 912 Kingsbury Street, Springfield , Missouri , possibly sent by her  brother , Art, in which  he says " we are still here  but we will be gone next week ". Posted in San Francisco , it urges people to   buy war bonds and stamps   and has  a  one  cent postal  stamp .
