On two occasions this writer has been asked for his name by a woman on a landline call claiming to be making a political poll . In the first instance , at the end of questioning relating to the Queensland election , I was asked for my first name in case the supervisor wanted to clarify an answer to a question . Strange . The latest caller rang re a "news poll " and asked to speak to a male member of the household . First off , she asked for my name ...when I asked why this is necessary, click , the interview ended before it started . Apart from being rude , if you believe in conspiracy theories you can see how polls could be tailored to only contact people who by previous response to questions and identified by name , be it just the Christian name , could give a response favouring one way. Giving your name could also be used for other intrusive marketing purposes . This is an issue that needs clarification and a statement by pollster organisations . Mainstream media should take up this issue .Who are these supervisors ? How many times do they call back people to "clarify " answers ? If never , why ask for a name in the first place ? Is your name used for a marketing purpose ?
