Back from hiking about China, two of our adventurous correspondents have been walking through the Victorian Grampians , much yellow wattle evident in the cold high country , as there is on Magnetic Island , North Queensland .
September 1 is celebrated as National Wattle Day throughout Australia , so declared by Governor-General Bill Hayden in 1992. The year 2010 was the centenary of Wattle Day which had been observed in New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia .
