TROPICAL ART DECO FESTIVAL

The  North Queensland  town  of  Innisfail  will next month celebrate a century of art deco style ,  there being much  of  it  in  its  architecure , such as the shire hall  .

After  the  l918 cyclone  which devastated  the town, only 12 houses left standing , the  CBD  was  rebuilt  in  the   solid  art  deco fashion , becoming the  art  deco  capital  of   Australia.  Other  art deco buildings scattered about the north. 

After an  earthquake  hit  Napier , New Zealand , on February 3  , 1931, killing  256 and injuring thousands,  it  was   also rebuilt  in  the  strong  art  deco   fashion , becoming  one of  the  world's  finest examples  of  art deco  architecture, attracting  many overseas  tourists, including Americans .
