A PLACE FOR TURTLES

Alva Beach, 15 kms from Ayr , North Queensland, at low  tide , where marine turtles  are  known  to  come  ashore  .   From   there    regular   dive   trips  are  made to   the  wreck of  the  SS Yongala ,  which in 1911  sank during   a cyclone  resulting in the    death  of  122  passengers , described  as being  in the   top 10  dives  in  the  world  .

It  is also  the  site of the  Ayr  Surf  LIfesaving  Club  which  sports   a    suspended  surfboat   across  the  front  of  the  building .

Atop a   nearby watertank  is  a  surf  lifesaving  reel .
