Malcolm Turnbull must be licking his lips in anticipation after the WA Senate result as PM Tony Abbott and his clique have failed yet again and our leader may soon be tapped on the shoulder-not for a knighthood- and told to pedal off into the waterless , political wilderness . Despite the Coalition
spin that the WA
vote was a typical
swing against government in a kind of by- election,
the drop in
support for the
Liberals is further evidence
that the PM is not popular with a
large part of the voting public. His pious words , endless slogans ,
and instant , hollow laugh for the cameras no longer resonate.
Look at the facts ,
his close involvement in two Queensland by- elections, the SA state
election and now
the WA Senate rerun , conducted like WW111
in Federal parliament have all been
failures. Admittedly , there was a change of government in Tasmania , which was a foregone conclusion . While the
ALP primary vote in WA was low ,
it is astonishing that it was so high after the performance of its number 1 candidate , Bullock , surely a candidate for the knackery.
Not so long ago, pundits were speculating that all of Australia would soon be run by conservative governments , that the cards were falling in Abbott's favour . A short time later , the CLP government in the Northern Territory is an absolute shambles and could collapse any day , its chief minister, Adam Giles, having spent nearly $100,00 for a special charter flight to bring him back from Asia for a photo shoot opportunity with Abbott in the NT .
Giles has declined an offer to join the PM's present swing along the Silk Road to help flog off more of the country. In Queensland , Premier Newman and his LNP government lurch from one stuff up to another , a recent poll showing that 53 per cent don't want the government , which had a landslide win at the previous election , to get another term in office. An earlier newspaper poll showed that the LNP could lose 35 seats, including that of Campbell Newman . In Victoria, the warring Coalition forces seem certain to get the boot at the next day of reckoning .
The orchestrated Coalition , stuck in the groove campaign , in the Senate and the House of Representatives warned West Australians that the ALP , like Vikings, was raping and pillaging the state with its carbon and mining tax . The Sandgropers did not buy the junk food message being played over and over by the Coalition.
The morning after the vote , Foreign Minister , Julie Bishop, above , appearing on the ABC Insiders , eyeballing pesky Barrie Cassidy , was on message about the loss of voter support being what you would expect and warned that the ALP Vikings were still rampaging up and down the Indian Ocean , threatening villages and virgins . Like Barnaby Joyce , she got her figures mixed up when detailing the amount of assistance being offered the Solomons , battered by torrential rain and a quake . This slip of the tongue was attributed to the fact that the Libs and the Nats, who hardly got a vote , had been sitting up late chewing their fingernails .
